4 Reasons and Techniques to Improve Yourself in Many Fields
Discover the hidden potential within yourself
Is it important to be an expert in a single field or to have the potential to enter many different fields? If you were to be reborn, would you still work in the same job? And most importantly, what talent would you be happier with today?
When these questions came to my mind, I felt too overwhelmed and a little scattered at the same time. I paused for a moment and thought, “why do I do or think I have to deal with so much work? I asked myself. And then I found myself wandering through the above questions. While searching for answers, I wanted to go back and think, “What kind of person am I?”
From an early age, I never felt that I belonged to a single field. I’ve always had more than one occupation that occupied my agenda. In a world like this, I always thought it would be unfair to care for only one thing and sacrifice my life for one thing. Because we live in a world where we discover new things wherever we step, we discover the secret of new things, we redefine ourselves, we cross the limits of our horizons, and most importantly, we build our own world. There is so much to learn and discover that I know that one lifetime will not be enough. Therefore, instead of being one-sided, I tried to serve this goal by improving myself in many ways.
Today, in this article, I want to give you 4 meaningful reasons to take action and go on a multi-faceted journey beyond your own limits.
1. To Know and Understand Who You Are
Knowing others is intelligence; Knowing yourself is true wisdom. It is difficult to dominate others; Self-control is real power. — Lao Tzu
Are you really the person you are now or are you something more? If you’re wondering about this — and you probably are more than you are — take the first step by recognizing the boundaries you set for yourself. Most of us think that others are holding us back, but even if we don’t realize it, the biggest obstacle to achieving more is often ourselves.
We can never understand the answer to the question who am I by looking at one place, staying in one place. What we have learned so far will only give us clues, but there is still a life offered to us to discover ourselves. What we will learn in the remainder will perhaps more determine who we are.
Like everyone else, you have hidden talents and potentials that are still waiting to be discovered. You should set aside the excuses you offer yourself to discover them and take action in the opposite direction.
You will never know who you are, what you like and dislike, and where your boundaries end up until you try.
Therefore, try to devote time to every area that attracts your curiosity, not just one area to understand who you are first.
2. To Gain Competitive Advantage
The wise man does not compete with anyone, so no one can compete with him. Confucius
We live in such an age that we find ourselves in a competition no matter which way we look. From the number of likes on social media to the salaries of our colleagues at work; From the models of the phones we use to the brand of the mask we wear, there is a competition that we are presented and drawn into.
In this competitive environment, it is getting harder and harder for us to stand up and fight with only one talent. The moment you want to isolate yourself from the competition, it feels like you have already been excluded or your opportunities have been taken away. One of the secrets of being successful in life is to play the game according to the rules in the face of situations that we cannot change.
- It doesn’t make any sense to be a university graduate anymore, it makes more sense which projects you are involved in at the university.
- Knowing more than one foreign language, not one foreigner, differentiates you.
- It’s not just being close to technology and being a loyal user, but using technology as a production tool makes you valuable.
- The fact that you are not only very technical, but also nurturing your artistic side makes you a sought after person.
- Being recognized in the country you live in is no longer enough, and putting your signature to works that will make your name known in the world now brings you to the category of successful.
The examples I listed above will always push you to compete with someone else. However, I invite you to be versatile so that you can compete with yourself and not with anyone else.
Make it your goal to go up a higher version of yourself. Try to make a difference between the “me of yesterday” and the “me of today”. Experience the satisfaction of being in competition with yourself instead of getting caught up in the frustrating world of competition with others. And one day you will see that not you, but others will compete to keep up with you.
3. To Live a More Prosperous Life
We cannot secure our own welfare in any other way than by ensuring the well-being of all. If you want yourself to be happy, you have to consent to the happiness of others.
Bertrand Russell
Having a prosperous life is definitely not being very rich. For me, the secret to a prosperous life is to maintain a certain standard.
Unfortunately, we have witnessed closely that even people who have trained themselves very well in a single field are facing unemployment. If we don’t create guarantees for ourselves, life will never give us guarantees anyway.
When we are young we have fewer responsibilities, we are almost solely responsible for ourselves. However, as we get older, the people we take responsibility for start to be included in our lives. Our chances of compromising our responsibility to someone else will inevitably disappear as time goes on. A mother or father does not have the luxury of not taking care of their children or meeting their needs whenever they want. It is obliged to maintain this responsibility in a certain standard.
And yet, we should try to improve ourselves in many ways so as not to put ourselves or the people under our responsibility at risk. We have to create alternative income channels. There are many examples that we can open new income doors from brand new competencies with a little effort and patience. As long as we don’t get stuck in our comfort zone.
4. To Increase Your Influence
I have tried to emphasize in many articles that everyone has a role in this life. I attach particular importance to this issue because I think that the role we take in this life has an impact on other lives as well.
When I started blogging 2 years ago, I didn’t realize until that moment that I had an interest in writing. However, I discovered that even by writing together with that first article, I could touch the lives of people I had never met. Of course, this took time, but the messages I received from people I had never met showed me that I was on the right way.
- Sharing a chapter of a book you’re reading today can be a lifeblood to someone else when they need it most.
- By doing your job well, you can influence the lives of hundreds of people by changing the fate of a company and making it successful.
- By educating yourself as a good speaker, you can reach out to people who are looking for inspiration.
- By learning a foreign language, you can open the door to abroad for your family to live a better life.
- By learning to draw, you can put a smile on your loved one’s face by presenting your work as a gift.
- By learning software, you can cure people’s problems by offering solutions to their lives.
I mean, whatever field you are interested in, you will be able to touch someone’s life in some way. If you develop yourself with this awareness, be sure that you can be successful in many areas with confident steps without getting tired.
